New website & Loco

Recently the railways new website: http://www.freewebs.com/sandnlr was launched and has proved to be popular with visitors the the S&NLRs virtual home.
The railways new locomotive arrived today in the form of a LGB Frank S, the management (me) has always wanted one of these locos for the railway, so its going to prove to be a popular performer on the line. The loco is due to have its 'trial' run on the railway this coming weekend/week before it will enter service on the railway.

New loco on S&N and another arriveing soon!

On Thursday 16th October a new diesel locomotive arrived on the S&N in the form of a Piko 218 locomotive in beige/blue livery, this was because we were most impressed by the performance of the our other Piko 218 - The East Anglian.

The new locomotive will be named "William Marriott" next year to commemorate 50 years since the closure of the M&GN.

A new steam locomotive will be arriving on the S&NLR at the end of November/early December in the form of an LGB Frank S. Once the loco arrives on the railway it will be named "Lilly".

A Mamod traction engine arrived on the railway in time for the open day. It has been named 'Nellie' and is due to have rubber tires fitted in the near future. The steam tractor steamed for the first time at our open day and the running in of the piston and fly wheel is almost complete, and so will soon move under its own power very soon!

It also has a removable canopy.

Open Day

As usual the open day held on Bank Holiday Monday - August was our biggest of the year with people and locos visiting from all accross East Anglia.

Visiting locos included two live steam locos, a Roundhouse and a Accucraft Edrig- this was the first Accucraft loco to run on the S&NLR, a Class 66, and a noisy Union Pacific Dash 9.

We also had two visiting Mamod traction engines and a mamod steam roller. Our new traction also made its very first steaming.

Water Tower News + Other

The construction of the Line Side Delights water tower which we purchased in May is almost completed, the most obvious addition that still needs to be added is the filler bag. Rather than painting the tank black like most railways have done we decided to paint it green.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Sunday 29Th June we visited the Fundenhall Railway along with owners of the Raglen Hall Joint Railway for a running session. We took Cambrai, and Dr Harry - this was their first visit to the line, we also took our DR boxvan and Playmobil wagon (which has been repainted into EWS livery).

Three Aristo-Craft Class 66s was in attendance seen above lined up.

We bought this coal staithe from Lineside Delights, this has now been painted up and situated in the yard. We have also bought a water tower kit from them, this is currently under construction.
We bought this Halt shelter from Model Town and was incredibly easy to assemble, we will be buying more of their kits i nthe future for example the engine shed and ground signal box.
This scratch built railbus visited us for a week from the Fundenhall Railway to check height clearances on our new tunnel/footbridge.
